1. Surround yourself with positivity. Be around positive and happy people, have positive conversations and focus on remaining positive! How?

Do your best to avoid and ignore negative conservations, comments or words about your life and others. Read an uplifting book, read a positive quote, write down a positive affirmation. Make being happy and being positive a habit. Remember, you are affected by both your internal and external environment. Why not transform the both of them into a breeding ground for positivity? Gain positivity from the world, and give some to the world.

I personally love reading self-growth books since they’re filled profound wisdom, encouragement and ways to keep yourself positive in your day to day life. One of the best books I’ve had the pleasure of reading was: How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It taught me a lot about remaining positive, expressing gratitude, and learning to gain compassion for other people.

I also love reading quotes and writing affirmations on a daily basis. It’s a great start to the day, and they give me the boost of energy, and positivity — even on the days when things may seem difficult. Why not download an app on your phone or tablet that will let you read quotes or affirmations whenever you get a chance.

2. Express gratitude. Count your blessings and be thankful for what you have! You can start a gratitude journal and write down the things you are grateful for each day before going to bed, or take the time out of your day to simply notice the things you are grateful for. You can express your gratitude through actions, words, and thoughts.

Notice that the happiest people in life are the ones that are grateful and thankful for what they have. You will begin to find yourself becoming more happy, positive and enjoying what life has to offer when you start see the the many opportunities, people, experiences, and lessons you have come across in your life!

Happiness and gratitude go hand in hand. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose!

3. Meditate. Try to meditate or pray daily, even if it’s for 5 or 10 minutes. Give yourself the opportunity to cleanse your mind and spirit from any negativities or stress. Simply enjoy being.

You can meditate in silence, meditate with music, or use guided meditations to help guide you through meditation if you are new. I am slowly transitioning into making meditation a daily habit, and I can feel the difference on the days I meditate and the days I don’t. Meditation has taught me to become conscious and aware of my body, thoughts, and emotions  without any judgement. And it will too, allow you to do the same. Learn to enjoy living and being in your own body with every breath and give yourself the opportunity to be.

I am in love with quotes. Who would’ve thought that a few simple words could have such a profound effect to change how you feel, think… and even turn your life around?

Practice Being Present: Guided Meditation

I know it may seem hard at first, but as I said before, practice makes perfect! Remember, learning to live in the present is one of the best decisions you will make for yourself in life. You will be happier when you are conscious, aware and taking in each moment of your life with all your senses — to the fullest!

It’s not easy to change your habit and focus on the now — but it is possible! I know, because I have done it and it is a continuing journey. For me, the biggest thing that has been helping me to live in the present moment is through guided meditation.

If you’re not used to sitting in stillness, or used to meditating and you find yourself constantly bombarded with thoughts — then guided meditation may just be a thing for you. It is exactly what it sounds like: you are being guided throughout the entire meditation. I can go into detail and explain how it works, but why not just let you experience it for yourself?

Check out this wonderful guided meditation on learning to be present. I downloaded this meditation as an audio for my phone so I can have it with me wherever I go and listen to it when I get the chance! You’ll feel incredible when you do. Don’t take my word for it though, experience it for yourself.

Learn to be Present

Would you like to have peace of mind and a feeling of bliss every day, no matter how chaotic or stressful your day may be?

The answer is simple: learn to be present.

You see, there are only three time frames: the past, the present and the future. Once you start becoming aware of your thoughts and the things you think about, you will notice that most of the time your thoughts and feelings are focused on the past or future. You will also notice that these thoughts are clouded with judgements that revolve around all the things that they may have happened in the past or the worries that may await you ahead in your future.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Most of us go throughout our lives in such a way; always living in the past or the future. We have become so accustomed to thinking in such a way that it has become a habit, which we mistake as second nature. Sometimes, you may even think and feel that your own mind is out of your control!

What Does it Mean to Be Present?

Being present is a frame of time you choose to focus on. It means you are choosing to focus on the here, and the now. It means abandoning the thoughts of the past, and future – which do not exist. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have goals for the future. But you can’t accomplish the goals if you don’t do what you need to do today, and what you need to do now.

Practice Being Present

Just as I said earlier, the way you think becomes a habit. You can change the way you think by changing your habit. Make your habit to living in the present instead of the past or future.  It may seem strange at first but the more your practice, and the more you do it, the more naturally it will come to you.

So what can you do now to become present?

Whatever you are doing right now; reading this blog post, doing the laundry, anything! – learn to focus on doing only that one thing. Pay attention and observe what you are doing, your body, your thoughts, the feelings and sensations you feel.

You may notice your thoughts drifting, and that’s okay. Becoming aware of your thoughts is the first step of bringing them back to your present task at hand. Do this again, and do it often. You will find yourself living more and more into the present moment!

I personally rarely ever take cold showers, save for a hot summer’s day. However, I think I just might turn into a daily staple! If you’ve never had a cold shower before, it may sound dreadful, and you’d probably think I’m crazy!
